The 'Memes d'Or'! Victor Boniface responds after shockingly being left off shortlist for African Player of the Year

Boniface enjoyed a stunning season with Bayer Leverkusen, winning the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal and scoring 21 goals in all competitions, while also registering 10 assists. He was subsequently named in the Bundesliga's Team of the Season but he has amazingly been left out of the shortlist for the African Player of the Year award.

The list is made up of the following players: Amine Gouri (Rennes), Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen), Simon Adingra (Brighton), Chancel Mbemba (Marseille), Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund), Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Soufiane Rahimi (Al Ain), Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), William Troost-Ekong (Al Kholood) and Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns).

Boniface wrote on X: "Rookie of the season, Team of the Season, No worry I no play AFCON, Na why I dey wait for memes d or."

Boniface has scored seven goals in 10 games this season for Leverkusen and will next be in action when they face Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
