Man Utd listen to Cristiano Ronaldo! Carrington training ground's £50m upgrade includes new swimming pool and Premier League's first barbers as INEOS step up investment

Portuguese superstar CR7 savaged the facilities at Carrington when returning to English football in 2021, pointing out that the swimming pool being used by the Red Devils was the same one from his first spell with the club between 2003 and 2009.

United officials thought Ronaldo’s criticism was harsh, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS co-ownership group have delivered a £50 million ($67m) facelift that has seen the senior squad sharing academy team facelifts for the last 12 months.

Ruben Amorim’s side will move into the new base when returning from their pre-season tour of the United States. The refurbishment has been overseen by architects Foster + Partners, who have also designed the club’s proposed new 100,000-seater stadium.

According to The Times, Carrington now boasts "state-of-the-art equipment designed to help performance" on the first floor, while upstairs there is a recreational area for players to relax in and a "specifically-designed barbers room" - the first of its kind at a Premier League club.

At ground level, United also have changing rooms, a gym, pool and medical areas. The Times claims "cryogenic chambers have been installed at Carrington and gym facilities have been upgraded". Windows have been installed in corridors that were "dark and dingy".

United will hope that a fresh start off the field delivers a reversal in fortune on it. The Red Devils are without European football for 2025-26, but are busy in the transfer market and intend to compete on multiple domestic fronts in the upcoming campaign.
