Jonathan David ends transfer saga and signs five-year contract with Juventus after leaving Lille following contract expiry

Canadian forward Jonathan David has signed for Serie A giants Juventus on a five-year-deal. David joins the Italian side after his contract with Ligue 1 club Lille ended this summer. The 25-year-old will earn a salary of €6 million (£5m/$7m) per season plus bonuses at the Bianconeri. David spent five years at Lille where he scored 109 goals in 200 appearances.

WHAT HAPPENED?
It was earlier reported that the Canadian international would prefer to join one of Manchester United, Barcelona or Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, however, he eventually agreed to sign for Juventus.

WHAT JUVENTUS SAID
The official statement from Juventus read: "Jonathan David is officially a Juventus player! The 25-year-old Canadian forward has signed a five-year contract with the club, running until June 30, 2030."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
David started his career at Belgian side Gent before moving to Lille in 2020. In his maiden season in France, the striker won the Ligue 1 title, contributing 13 goals. He was also an integral part of the Lille side that won the French Super Cup in 2021. For Canada, the player has appeared in 67 international matches, scoring 36 goals.

After a hectic 2024-25 campaign, Igor Tudor's side are currently enjoying a well-earned break. They will be back in action next month as they play their Serie A opener on August 24 against Parma.
