'He's a unit!' - Harry Maguire insists Benjamin Sesko 'will cause a lot of defenders problems' as Man Utd squad gives £74m striker 'full backing' after slow start at Old Trafford

Sesko’s debut came from the bench in the season opener against Arsenal, where United were beaten, before he featured for 37 minutes in a 1-1 draw at Fulham. On both occasions, he struggled to impose himself, leading some to wonder whether he is ready to shoulder the responsibility of being United’s No.9.

Despite the growing murmur of doubt, Maguire has leapt to his defence, insisting Sesko will prove his worth. Speaking to the club media, Maguire said: "He’s a unit for his age. I’m sure he’s going to cause a lot of defenders problems. He’s still young, but he’s got all the attributes to contribute to the team and to contribute to this club for many years to come, so we’ll give him our full backing and, fingers crossed, he scores many goals for us."

United’s Brazilian midfield anchor Casemiro also rallied behind the forward, stressing the importance of patience as Sesko adjusts to the high demands of English football.

"It’s clear he has quality. He is a player who is going to be very important for us," he said. "I hope that it goes really well for him, because if it goes well for him, he’s scoring goals for us! I’m sure he’s going to help us a lot with goals."

Full-back Diogo Dalot echoed similar sentiments but placed emphasis on Sesko’s spirits and eagerness to adapt to the requirements of his new club.

"Very energetic. He has very good energy," Dalot added. "He wants to learn a lot. He wants to help the team. You can feel that he has a lot of quality, of course, otherwise he wouldn’t be here, but at the same time, I can feel that he wants to start straight away, he wants to score goals, he wants to help the team. So, I like that energy in him, and hopefully he can help us a lot this season."

At £74m, expectations are sky-high, and patience in the Premier League is thin. United supporters have seen big-money forwards flop before, and critics are already watching closely for signs of another expensive misfire. United’s next fixtures may offer Sesko the perfect stage to find his feet. First comes a League Cup second-round clash against Grimsby on Wednesday, a match that could hand him a starting berth. Three days later, Burnley visit Old Trafford in the Premier League, and Sesko will be desperate to feature again.
