  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Amorim left Rashford out of his squad for Sunday's Manchester derby and saw his team go on to beat the defending Premier League champions 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo handed the Red Devils a famous win and piled more misery on Pep Guardiola's struggling side.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amorim's decision to drop Rashford comes amid speculation the Red Devils are willing to sell the forward in January. Amorim was quizzed on Rashford after the win over City and urged the 27-year-old to "fight" to get back in the team, highlighting how many people at the club have lost their jobs under Sir Jim Ratcliffe as part of cost-cutting measures.

  • WHAT AMORIM SAID

He told reporters: "You understand for so long we try something with Rash, it doesn't work. Let's continue to do the same thing or try something different? It's as simple as that. They have to work hard. Today they trained really hard. It was not a disciplinary thing. Next week, next game, new life... When we want to change a lot of things, when people in the club are losing their jobs, they have to fight for their place in the team."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Rashford is one of the top earners at Manchester United and is reportedly on wages of £350,000 a week. It has been reported that United could look to get Rashford's salary off their books as early as January, with a move to the Saudi Pro League mooted as a potential option for the forward.

    WHAT NEXT FOR RASHFORD
