Dani Olmo ‘super calm’ about Barcelona future despite fears he can’t be registered for second half of season

Barcelona have only been able to register Olmo to December 31, having signed him from RB Leipzig in a €55m (£46m/$58m) deal in the summer. He was initially unregistered because of Barcelona's financial concerns, but they were able to add Olmo to their squad after a long-term injury was sustained by Andreas Christensen. La Liga rules allow clubs to exceed the league's spending limit if a serious injury occurs, and Barca used that ruling to introduce Olmo into their first-team squad.

The Spaniard is only registered until the final day of 2024, meaning Barcelona face a race against time to return to the 1:1 rule that La Liga enforce; clubs cannot spend more than they earn unless specific circumstances arise. Per Marca, Barca must generate salary space, and may need to sell players to do so. Nevertheless, Olmo is said to be relaxed about the situation, and trusts the Blaugrana to ensure he is registered in time.

Olmo has been in remarkable form for Barca this season and has notched five goals in six La Liga games, including a superb brace against Espanyol. It would be a bitter blow for Hansi Flick's side to lose him for any period of time.

Barcelona are next in action on Saturday, November 23 against Celta Vigo. They have eight games to play before the end of 2024, when Olmo's registration expires.
