  • Winger back in Germany on short-term deal
  • Had been frozen out at Old Trafford
  • Return to form will attract interest from elsewhere
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Having found himself frozen out at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag, the England international has retraced steps to Signal Iduna Park. He was handed an immediate debut by Dortmund after rejoining their ranks, as he stepped off the bench in a 3-0 victory over Darmstadt.

    WHAT KEHL SAID ABOUT SANCHO

Sancho teed up a goal for Marco Reus in that contest, and has a smile on his face once more, but BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl has told Sky90 on the chances of another deal being done in the summer: “Realistically speaking, not that much. Manchester United paid over 85 million euros for him two-and-a-half years ago and there was no way for us to secure a purchase option in a way that was economically viable. The salary is one thing, the transfer package is another. If he develops in the way we hope, then other clubs will become active in the summer and then he will probably be a category of player that will be difficult for Borussia Dortmund to afford. But we'll see what happens in the summer.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

United will be hoping to see suitors emerge for Sancho, with Ten Hag claiming that the 23-year-old winger has endured “issues” throughout his time in Manchester. He told Sky Sports: “He's now at Dortmund. So after he was signed, one year before [I was here], and there were issues. We have had issues all the way through, and so you can make out his stay at Manchester United so far is not a success. So now he is going back to Borussia Dortmund, so I wish him the best of luck. I hope, we all hope he is doing well there, he will be successful. Again, we will see what is going to happen.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR SANCHO?

Sancho is under contract at Old Trafford through to 2026, but there appears to be little chance of him seeing that agreement out. The slate could be wiped clean for him at his parent club if Ten Hag were to be moved on, with the Dutch coach seeing questions asked of his future in an inconsistent 2023-24 campaign.
