€1 BILLION release clause! Barcelona ready to hand massive new deal to 17-year-old wonderkid Pau Cubarsi

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Catalan side have sent a new contract proposal to the centre-back, which includes a long-term deal, a pay rise, and a €1 billion (£855m/$1.08b) release clause. He adds they hope to tie the 17-year-old down to new terms before the end of the season.

Cubarsi is another success story of Barcelona's La Masia academy. The youngster is making a big impact in the Spanish giants' first-team, alongside Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, and more. At a time when the club has struggled financially, these importance of the academy cannot be overstated.

Cubarsi, who initially was at Girona's academy between the ages of seven and 11 before joining Barcelona, made his Spain debut earlier this year - shortly after breaking into Xavi's first-team. He has made 13 appearances so far this season for Barca.

Cubarsi's Barcelona - who sit second in La Liga behind rivals and league leaders Real Madrid - host Las Palmas on Saturday night, followed by the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie away to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
