'The most beautiful craziness' - Lionel Messi celebrates one year since lifting the World Cup with Argentina

Monday marked the anniversary of the South American nation's final victory against France, in which Messi scored twice as the two teams played out a 3-3 draw over 120 minutes in Qatar, taking the decisive clash to a penalty shootout which Argentina won 4-2.

Messi took to social media to commemorate their first World Cup win since 1986. He wrote on an Instagram post: "One year of the most beautiful craziness of my career. Unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime. Happy anniversary to everyone!!!"

The 36-year-old was the star for Argentina as they went on to secure the third world crown in their history, despite losing 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in their first game of the competition. Messi scored seven goals overall, including two in the final, and finished a goal behind top scorer Kylian Mbappe, who fired in three goals against Argentina.

Inter Miami star Messi is gearing up for next year's MLS campaign, which is expected to kick off in late-February or early-March 2024. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner will likely be part of the Argentina team for next summer's Copa America in the United States.
