    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Spain were the only team in the group stage to emerge with the maximum nine points from their three games and have had the far tougher knockout route to reach the final. They knocked out Germany - the best other team from the groups - in the quarter-finals, before 2022 World Cup finalists France fell in the semis. Spain also made light work of surprise package Georgia after initially falling behind. England have had a more favourable knockout route, faced with Slovakia, Switzerland and the Netherlands, but required extra-time, penalties and a last-minute winner respectively to get through those tests.

  • WHAT LAMINE YAMAL SAID

Yamal said: "Playing the way we are doing, like against Germany or France. Being ourselves, having the ball and controlling the game at all times. I think we are the best at that and nobody can stop us if we do that. It is clear that as a team there is no one like Spain, playing the ball, going for the pressure...we are doing very well. In the end, putting that intensity in is key. Without it you cannot win a Euro final."

    DID YOU KNOW?

Having now turned 17 the day before the final, Yamal also revealed: "I told my mother that, if we win, I don't want anything as a gift. I just want to celebrate in Madrid with my teammates. And that's it. It can be crazy with the crowd. Everyone would go crazy from the airport! We would arrive with incredible euphoria. Winning a European Championship is something crazy that hasn't happened since 2012."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR YAMAL & SPAIN?

Immortality awaits Yamal if Spain win. He will be the greatest source of danger that England need to address in Berlin on Sunday, although it won't be that easy because the likes of Nico Williams, Fabian Ruiz and Rodri have all shown in recent weeks their ability to make a game-changing impact.
