'It's not fair' - Arne Slot gives verdict on whether Mohamed Salah should be remembered alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as an all-time great

After Salah starred with a goal and an assist in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Manchester City last weekend, former Reds stars Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Carragher claimed that the Egyptian is reaching the levels of al-time greats Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and the winger should be a strong contender for Ballon d'Or this year. With his stellar performance against City, Salah took his tally to 25 goals and 16 assists in 27 Premier League matches in the 2024/25 campaign.

When manager Arne Slot was asked if Salah should be kept in the same bracket as Messi and Ronaldo, the Dutchman said: "It's so difficult to compare players with each other and it's not fair to anyone. Mo has had his own career and he has been outstanding. Mo has had some outstanding seasons here at Liverpool and we hope he can continue this for a longer period of time but first he needs to extend his contract. You guys don't ask me about that any more, so that's a positive!"

The 32-year-old's stellar form has been crucial in keeping Liverpool at the top of the table as the Merseyside club now enjoy an eleven-point lead at the summit. The attacker, however, is yet to negotiate a new deal with the club despite entering the final few months of his existing deal.

Slot's side will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on Newcastle United in the Premier League at Anfield.
