Luke Shaw will only agree to leave Manchester United if the club stump up £5 million to cover potential losses in earnings, according to the Sun.

A fringe figure under Jose Mourinho, the full-back is expected to be put up for sale in January. Unlikely to command the same wages he enjoys at Old Trafford elsewhere, Shaw reportedly will in turn demand United cover the shortfall before accepting a move away.

Newcastle United are one of the clubs to be linked with the out of favour defender in the new year.

It remains to be seen, however, if Leverkusen will sanction a sale — or if Bayern will be willing to spend big on what will be essentially a back-up shot-stopper.

This would give Coutinho the move he desires, but also give Reds boss Jurgen Klopp enough time to find an adequate replacement for the 25-year-old.
