'Pogba wants to compete for more trophies' - Suarez opens door for Barcelona move

Luis Suarez has said that Manchester United's Paul Pogba would be welcome at Barcelona as the midfielder continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Suarez has become the second Blaugrana player to state that the Frenchman would be greeted with open arms at Camp Nou following Gerard Pique's similar statement .

Pogba's relationship with manager Jose Mourinho is said to be fractious, with the World Cup winner reportedly open to a move away from a Manchester side which has struggled in the early stages of the season.

As such, Suarez feels that a move to the Spanish champions would be a good fit should the 25-year-old make the switch at some point in the future.

“Pogba is an elite player – he has won everything,” the Uruguayan told RAC1 . “He has a lot of quality and he is a key player for United.

“I think he would like to be competing for more [silverware] than he is at the moment. He may not be a Barca player yet, but he would always be welcome.”

Pogba's France national team-mate Antoine Griezmann is another player who had been tipped to join Barca over the summer, but the attacker ultimately chose to stay with Atletico Madrid.

Reports had suggested that Griezmann would have replaced Suarez at the head of Barca's attack, but the 31-year-old does not feel that would have been the case.

“It was a surprise [that he stayed at Atletico],” he went on. “But you have to respect his decision, which he made with his family. He earned everyone's respect.

“There was some people saying I would leave if he came in, but I don't know where that came from. If he came, he would have been well received because he's an excellent player.”

Reports of being replaced by Griezmann may have been in part down to Suarez having come in for some criticism over his form in the past season, but he believes he still has a lot to offer.

Suarez did admit, however, that he needs to pay more attention to his body if he is to prolong his time at the top of the game.

“You begin to realise that you have to might have to rest in some of the more winnable games,” he said.

“I want to play every minute but I have realised that you have to understand how to stay at your best for big games. You have to keep in shape, and when you feel fatigue you have to take a step back.

“I will keep going for Barca for as long as my body allows it, though. It's hard to know where I will go it if I will retire at Camp Nou.

“Look at Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta, who came through at the club but couldn't end their careers here, which is every player's desire.”
