Mourinho favourite Rashford looking for 'more' amid Man Utd future questions

Marcus Rashford has seen his future questioned at Manchester United, but he is looking for “more” after proving to be a Jose Mourinho favourite.

The England international has drifted in and out of the Red Devils side at times under the club’s current boss, but he is rarely overlooked completely.

In fact, no player has made more appearances under the Portuguese since his arrival at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016.

Rashford is rightly proud of that record, as a 20-year-old facing fierce competition for places, and has offered no indication that he is planning for life elsewhere.

He told Inside United after being informed that he has taken in a club-high 97 outings under Mourinho: “I wasn’t aware of it [that statistic] before I saw it and it’s something to be proud of.

“But we always want more and we always want to show progression individually and as a team, so the numbers don’t really matter as much as the results do to me.”

Rashford has more incentive than most for wanting to remain at Old Trafford, as a home-grown talent representing his boyhood club.

Asked if that standing at one of world football’s biggest clubs gives him added satisfaction, the academy graduate said: “I think it does.

“A lot of people have that dream, so you’re not only doing it for you; you’re doing it for a lot of people that you might not even know, but there are a lot of people who had the dream of playing for their local team when they were young.

“So I think you are playing not only for yourself and for the club, but for all the people that are living that dream through you.”

Rashford has enjoyed his most productive United season to date in 2017-18, with his 29 appearances delivering a career-best 12 goals.

He has also contributed six assists across Premier League and Champions League competition, but is battling with the likes of Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata for regular game time.
