Betting: Gabriel Jesus to outgun Kane as the Premier League's top scorer at the World Cup

Having missed out on the Premier League’s Golden Boot for the first time in three seasons, Harry Kane will be determined to prove himself as the English league’s deadliest goalscorer at this summer’s World Cup.

With eight goals in his last seven matches for England, the Tottenham Hotspur striker certainly offers plenty of appeal at 6/1 (7.00) with bet365 to outscore all of his Premier League rivals in Russia.

However, while injury may have restricted him to a relatively modest 13 goals in England’s top flight last campaign, Gabriel Jesus will back himself to outscore Kane at international level this summer.

Leading the line for a Brazil team expected to go far in the tournament, a player with 10 goals to his name in 17 international appearances certainly merits backing at those same 6/1 (7.00) odds to finish as the Premier League’s top-scoring representative.

Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku 7/1 (8.00) is also likely to provide strong competition for his domestic rivals after scoring 11 times in eight qualification matches, although Roberto Martinez’s Belgium inspire less confidence than the Selecao at this level.

Similarly, Sergio Aguero offers less of a sure bet at 9/1 (10.00) considering he failed to get on target at all in qualification for an Argentina team that is less than convincing and all too reliant on Lionel Messi.

Mohamed Salah Egypt

Although the undisputed star player for Egypt, Mohamed Salah’s 16/1 (17.00) chances of replicating his incredible club form on the world stage are hampered by question marks over his fitness and the relative lack of quality around him in the national team.

While Eden Hazard’s record of one goal every four games for Belgium unlikely to see him justify 16/1 (17.00) odds, Olivier Giroud could represent a strong outside bet at that same 16/1 (17.00) price considering he is a regular starter for a star-studded France side and has an impressive 31 international goals to his name.
