The Gunners will have been rocked by the uncertainty over Aaron Ramsey's future at the club after negotiations for a contract renewal were withdrawn and shelved.

Arsenal have a habit of running down players' contracts until close to their expiry, such as with Mesut Ozil, and Unai Emery has been coy over whether he sees Ramsey as an integral part of his squad going forward.

Watford managed to shock Arsenal and win 2-1 at the death thanks to an injury strike from Deeney at Vicarage Road last season, though the Gunners were able to exact revenge with a 3-0 home win later on in the campaign.

Questions were raised around Emery's capabilities as Arsenal boss following Arsene Wenger's departure and opening consecutive losses against Manchester City and Chelsea, but the north London side seem to have steadied the ship despite some early-season turbulence.

Should Arsenal defeat Watford, they would leapfrog them into fourth place if Tottenham fail to beat Huddersfield.
