Liverpool accept £3.5m bid from Rosenborg for Chirivella

Liverpool have accepted a bid worth up to £3.5 million ($4.5m) from Rosenborg for midfielder Pedro Chirivella.

The Spaniard has featured regularly during the Reds’ pre-season campaign, and played in the 4-1 win over Manchester United in Michigan on Saturday.

But having returned to Merseyside with the rest of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, the 21-year-old is now set to travel to Norway to finalise his transfer.

The deal should be done before Rosenborg take on Celtic in their Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.

Liverpool will receive £2.4m ($3.1m) up front with the rest in performance-related bonuses. The Reds have insisted on a buy-back option, which will apply for the first three years of Chirivella’s new contract.

Signed from Valencia in 2013, Chirivella went to make five senior appearances at Anfield, including his Premier League debut under Klopp against Swansea City in May 2016.

He spent the last two seasons on loan in the Netherlands, first with Go Ahead Eagles and then last season at Willem II.

His exit is set to be the first of many over the next few weeks, as Klopp looks to trim his squad before the end of the transfer window.

Danny Ings is likely to leave, with Crystal Palace leading the race for the £20m ($26m) rated striker. Divock Origi has interest from Valencia, while Besiktas are among the clubs looking at goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Marko Grujic could join Cardiff on loan, while Lazar Markovic is almost certain to leave on a permanent basis, with Olympiakos joining Anderlecht, Leganes and Getafe in expressing an interest in the Serbian winger.
