Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp sent out a team consisting largely of youngsters and fringe players against South China, in a match that Spurs lost 2-0.

One interesting feature of the game was forward Robbie Keane's second-half appearance in a midfield position. Keane has been surrounded by speculation regarding how he will fit into the side after the arrival of England international striker Peter Crouch.

Redknapp insisted that it was because of an injury to Jermaine Jenas, and Keane was a player who was always prepared to fill in wherever asked.

"I brought him on as JJ had a bit of an injury and I didn't want to push him too far," the Spurs boss told Sky Sports.

"Robbie came on and he played in there. He is a good player and he can play several positions. He is always enthusiastic and he loves to play wherever he is asked to play."
