Player Ratings: Panathinaikos 2-3 Atletico Madrid

Atletico took the upper hand in the first leg of their tie with Panathinaikos. Goal.com watched the game and gave each player a mark out of ten...
PANATHINAIKOS

Galinovic 5
- Question marks over his ability to deny Forlan from scoring and even more about his efforts to stop Aguero netting the third.

Moon 4.5 - Poor throughout and exposed when Aguero sauntered past him as the last man and netted for Atletico in the second half.

Vintra 6 - Looked nervy at times, but that did not cost his team any goals and he will be disappointed with conceding three.

Gilberto 6.5 - Calm and assured in a position that is not his favourite and he must have been frustrated with his team-mates.

Spiropoulos 5.5 - More secure than his opposite number, but he was also at fault when Aguero scored the third goal.

Simao 6 - Playing in the holding role in front of the back four he had a mixed encounter, but made few mistakes that caused his side problems.

Karagounis 7.5 - A superb pass forward for the equaliser for Pana and an industrious display all round from the midfielder.

Katsouranis 6 - Did not provide the ammunition the forwards needed and will have to be at a higher level in the second leg.

Mattos 5.5 - Worked hard, but could not open up Atletico in a first half that was somewhat flat when compared to the second 45 minutes.

Salpingidis 7 - A stunning finish as he pulled the hosts back into the game and he impressed throughout and deserved better service.

Cisse 6 - Full of running, but only had one chance that he waited too long to take and more was expected of the pacey striker.

ATLETICO de MADRID

Asenjo 5.5
- He made one good save, but he was drawn off his line for the Greeks' opener and should have done better.

Heitinga 5.5 - Exposed by Leto in the second period and was nowhere to be seen when the wide man went through to score.

Juanito 6.5 - Covered very well and made up for his team-mates errors as he stopped Cisse scoring on one clear break.

Ujfalusi 6 - Was also not at his best as he looked unsure on occasion when deciding who he should be marking.

Antonio Lopez 6 - Provided some good crosses and also looked secure at the other end as he tracked back, but did not mark for Pana's second.

Assuncao 6.5 - Broke up the play and quietly went about his business in the midfield to prevent the hosts from creating more chances.

Maxi 7 - Took his goal very well as he stroked it home to put Atletico ahead and did everything right before being taken off.

Simao 6.5 - Often frustrates as he does not consistently produce his best for Atletico and this was another one of those nights.

Raul Garcia 7.5 - His pass to Forlan created the opening goal and that was just one highlight of a busy and impressive display.

Forlan 8
- Tireless and selfless, the Uruguayan was back to his best and deserved his goal to cap a good personal and team performance.

Aguero 7.5
- A stunning goal will stick in the memory, but he too often tried, and failed, to take defenders on instead of looking for Forlan.
