But his brand of football means that players have to be in peak physical condition due to the intense pressing style that they are asked to implement.
That is made possible in part by the team behind the team, including a member of staff at LFC’s AXA Training Centre, First Team Fitness Coach Dr. Conall Murtagh.
Murtagh is charged with getting the Reds’ stars to a level of fitness that allows them to execute their manager’s ideas.
A former player himself, Murtagh has been at the club since 2012, when he joined as an Academy Fitness Coach. Five years later, he graduated to the first team, and has since seen the club win multiple trophies.
So, AXA sent Paddy McGuinness to get a taste of the rigorous methods utilised by Murtagh and his team, undergoing a number of exercises at the club’s world-famous Anfield home.
Paddy hit an impressive peak speed of 28.5 kilometres per hour during a short test that illustrates just how much data can be extracted by utilising GPS vests.

What this means is that every movement a player makes at training is closely monitored by a vest they wear for each session.

The speed each player moves at is monitored in real time on the training ground, giving the staff a valuable insight into their fitness levels.
And even in between drills, Murtagh and his team are keeping an eye on the data, studying recovery times between exercises, providing valuable insight into player endurance.
For Murtagh, playing this role at a club like LFC is a dream come true.
