Sergio Ramos is a defender who currently plays for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team. Billed as Paolo Maldini's successor in the modern game, Ramos is equally adept at playing as a right or centre back.

Beginning his football through the Sevilla youth system, Ramos made his Liga debut in February 2004, coming on as a substitute away at Deportivo de La Coruña; he his debut goal in September. After only three seasons in the Sevilla first team, he was transferred to Real Madrid in the summer of 2005 for €27 million, a record for a Spanish teenager.

At Real Madrid, Ramos was awarded the number 4 shirt, previously held by team captain Fernando Hierro. Ramos continued to play with such skill as well and was named in both FIFA and UEFA's 2008 Team of the Year, adding the FIFPro Team of the Year in the 2007–08 season. He also finished 21st in the European Player of the Year nomination for 2008. At the beginning of the 2009–10 season, Sergio Ramos was appointed as one of the 4 captains of Real Madrid.

Ramos made his senior international debut at only 18 years of age, in a friendly 3–0 win over China, making him the youngest player to play for the national team in the last 55 years. Ramos held this record until it was broken by Spain teammate Cesc Fàbregas.
