Zimbabwe Warriors suffer Divine Lunga injury ahead of DR Congo

Zimbabwe international defender Divine Lunga has withdrawn from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying squad to face DR Congo, after suffering an ankle injury on Sunday.

The Warriors clash with the Congolese Leopards in the Group G top-of-the-table contest away in Kinshasha on Saturday, befopre the return leg in Harare three days later.

No new player will be summoned for the camp as a replacement because Bloemfontein Celtic left-back Ronald Pfumbidzai will take Lunga’s place and he's already in the squad.

“Lunga was injured on Sunday and there is absolutely no chance that he will be in the team,” Zimbabwe team manager Wellington Mupandare told The Herald.

“The coaches are not going to call in any replacements. They have indicated they will work with the 22 players in the camp.

“I think we have a large pool already and there are players in that squad who are capable of playing in the position as well.”

Lunga’s withdrawal from the team adds on to the injury woes that has blighted the Warriors camp since the beginning of this campaign.

SuperSport striker Evans Rusike has also been ruled out of the match with an injury, while Tino Kadewere of French League 2 side Le Havre is another casualty.

Veteran striker Nyasha Mushekwi has been enjoying terrific form in China but is injured for the Warriors.

Defender Costa Nhamoinesu also claims to be injured but he has been playing for his Czech Liga club Sparta Prague.
