Newcastle United will stick to their defensive approach in big games and continue to back manager Rafa Benitez, says Mohamed Diame.

Benitez deployed five men in defence in Newcastle's last two games against Chelsea and Manchester City, but both ended in 2-1 losses.

And the Spaniard has come in for criticism, with the Magpies only point in their opening four English Premier League games coming in their draw against newcomers Cardiff City.

However, the Senegal midfielder insists sticking together as a team is most important during their trying period.

“We all back him and believe in him. We will do everything to make sure that, come the end of the season, we have got the results that we want,” Diame told reporters.

“People can talk, it’s part of football. The most important part is that, as a group, we’re sticking to our plan and we’re sticking together.”

In their next Premier League game, Newcastle face another big side in Arsenal after the international break.
