The Bayern Munich star believes his former international team-mate can be a devastating force in Japan with his new club, Vissel Kobe

Lukas Podolski will be a major asset to Japanese football when he embarks on his J1 League journey with Vissel Kobe, says German's former international team-mate Thomas Muller.

Podolski has joined the Japanese outfit after a two-year stint at Galatasaray, where he scored 20 Super Lig goals and also helped the Istanbul giants to a Turkish Cup triumph.

And Muller believes the 32-year-old’s devastating left foot and uplifting personality will be major assets to a league on the rise.

“He has a hammer,” Muller told Goal.

“He’s a great shooter with his left foot. [He’ll bring] speed as well, he’s very fast. And off the pitch, a lot of intensity. He speaks a lot and has funny ideas off the pitch.”

Podolski, 32, signed off a glittering international career earlier this year with a stunning long-range strike that saw off England in a March friendly.

And Muller says the former World Cup-winner, who earned 130 caps for Germany, can’t wait to begin a new chapter in his career,

“He’s very excited,” Muller added.

“I think he’ll be travelling with his whole family. He’s excited about what will happen in Japan, and I think he’ll discover the whole country.”
