Trent Sainsbury's future in China is all but over after the Socceroo was dropped to Jiangsu Suning's reserves team.

Sainsbury, along with Brazilian midfielder Ramires, were both moved to the second squad as they attempt to secure transfers away from the club.

After starring at the World Cup for Australia, Sainsbury has attracted plenty of interest with a big-money move to the Middle East reportedly turned down as he eyes off a move to Europe.

Championship sides Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers have both been linked to the 26-year-old, who is currently on holidays after playing all three of the Socceroos group games in Russia.

The former Central Coast Mariner  arrived at Suning in 2016 with subsequent loan moves to Inter Milan and Grasshoppers meaning he never really established himself in China.

Ramires meanwhile, has been frozen out of the Jiangsu squad, having not played a minute in 2018.

Now dropped to the reserves, a move away looks inevitable with the former Chelsea midfielder previously expressing interest to return to the Blues and to also finish his career in Brazil
