GAME PREVIEW

Saying goodbye is never easy, but Tottenham bid farewell to White Hart Lane feeling optimistic about what the future holds.

The on-pitch product has developed at Spurs to such an extent under Mauricio Pochettino that their new 61,000-seater stadium is the kind of upgrade that feels necessary to allow them to take the next step, both domestically and in Europe, as they seek major honours.

That the new ground will be built on the same site as the Lane, too, will make change feel slightly easier despite the loss of the many familiar quirks and features of the place that has been home for 118 years.

Pochettino summed the mood up nicely. "I hope Sunday will be the most special day in the last three seasons," he said. "It will be special for our fans, staff, players, people who love Tottenham.

"At the same time I am excited about the new stadium because the soul and the smell of White Hart Lane will keep there. When the new era and stadium arrive there will be different expectations but, most important, always in our memory will be White Hart Lane, the soul and the smell.

"When you move to another area it's so difficult, but now we are changing nothing because the new stadium will be in the same place as White Hart Lane and that is fantastic."
