Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing Keita Balde before he opted for Monaco in 2017, says manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Balde joined Monaco on a five-year deal last summer from Lazio but he was a target for the English Premier League club - whose manager had him on his radar during his La Masia days - before he moved to the French top-flight.

Last month, Balde returned to the Serie A with Luciano Spalletti’s side on a season-long loan with an option to buy - and, on Tuesday evening, was a 72nd-minute substitute as Inter Milan fought back to grab a 2-1 victory at San Siro.

“Yes it is true. I have been following him since he was growing up at Barcelona while I was at Espanyol,” Pochettino was quoted as saying by Calciomercato.

“He has always been a player of interest for us, but then he chose Monaco. He remains an excellent attacker.”

Balde has featured in every of Inter's league games this campaign including two starts against Parma and Bologna but is yet to open his account.
