St.Peters Mumias upset favourites Upper Hill School in Eldoret

St. Peters Mumias worked tirelessly to upset Upper Hill High School in a hard fought 2-1, to dislodge one of the top favorites for the Copa Coca-Cola U-16 finals in Eldoret.

The western region champions led in the 44th minute through Issa Okumu. Ethan Vumi from the Nairobi region champions equalized in the 48th minute. Issa Okumu then grabbed a second and winning goal of the match in the 67th minute to ensure the team progressed to the finals.

In the other semi-final, St. Antony High School proved to be a hard nut to crack after thrashing harmless Riyabu Secondary School 5-0. Ansor Shamun grabbed a brace in the 8th and 52nd minutes and Juma Lugogo in the 64th and 72nd minute and a goal from Kennedy Mwendo in the 31st minute ensuring the Rift Valley champions are set to once again win the national title.

In the girls’ category, Moi Girls Nangili continued with their impressive form with Oruko Noel grabbing two goals in the 24th and 54th minute respectively to beat last years’ champions Olympic Girls High School.

In the other semi-final, Karamana Jacinte scored a brace in the 5th and 15th minutes with Nanjala Sarah scoring in the 18th minute to ensure Wiyeta progresses to the finals slated for tomorrow. Waa Girls managed to pull one goal from Mwambiti Tayira through a penalty in the 51st Minute.

In Saturday’s finals, Moi Girls Nangili will square it out against Wiyeta Secondary School with St. Antony High School going head to head with St. Peters Mumias.

In the play-offs, wounded Olympic High School will seek to reclaim their lost glory when they will meet Waa Girls high School. Upper Hill High School will be out to prove a point against Riyabu Secondary School.
