Ahead of Huddersfield Town’s visit to the Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers, striker Steve Mounie has disclosed his desperation to get off the mark this season.
Fresh off scoring in a competitive game for the first time in the past seven months as Benin were defeated 3-1 by the Gambia in an African Cup of Nations qualifying game, Mounie said that he has ‘some confidence’ his back.
The former Montpellier marksman was the Terriers’ most potent attacking outlet last term, with his seven goals crucial to retaining their Premier League status.
This season, though, he has struggled for form and is yet to register an effort in 11 games as his team languish a place above the bottom of the English top-flight standings. He is, however, upbeat about turning the corner soon.
"I got some confidence from the international team and I hope I can bring that to Town," Mounie said in a pre-match briefing.
"I am desperate. I am a striker. Sometimes when you are a striker there is a time when you don't score. Unfortunately, this time came at the beginning of the season.
"I am sure I have the capacity and the quality to score. I am a striker, I know how to score goals and I will.
"The most important thing is to get chances. If you get chances, you can score. If you don't get chances, you will not.
"As a striker, you know you will be criticised if you don't score goals. It is your job to score goals... I know what I am capable of and I know that I will score goals so I don't care about people criticising.
"I am sure I will have better days and the goals will come."
On Wolves' encounter, the 24-year-old striker continued: "There is no easy game in the Premier League. You have to do the work on the pitch and that's what we will try to do on Sunday"
