A group of disgruntled Manchester United fans paid for a plane to display a banner branding executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward as a “specialist in failure”.

The plane flew over Turf Moor as the Red Devils prepared to take on Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Man Utd supporters known as 'A Voice from the Terrace' arranged for the banner to be unfurled with Woodward being blamed for the club's slow start to the 2018/19 campaign.

United suffered back-to-back league defeats against Brighton and Tottenham following a summer of discontent between manager Jose Mourinho and the board.

Mourinho voiced his frustration at a perceived lack of summer transfer activity on a number of occasions during United's pre-season preparations.

United brought in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant ahead of the start of the season with Mourinho missing out on signing a centre-back - a position marked as a priority to strengthen.

Mourinho has received support from the United fan base througout the episode, with supporters chanting his name following the 3-0 defeat against Tottenham and in the build up to the Burnley match.

The banner is a flashback to when United fans similarly paid for a plane to display a banner protesting against David Moyes' reign at the club in 2014.

A banner with the words 'David Moyes - The Wrong One' flew over Old Trafford as United took on Aston Villa.

Moyes was sacked a month after the stunt, bringing an end to the Scotsman's poor spell in charge of the 20-time league champions.
