Sonny Bill helping Aussie cousins shine at English clubs

The rugby star is proving useful for his relatives chasing careers with the round ball

Akiel and Keyaan Raffie are two young Australian brothers looking to take English football by storm and they have a certain Sonny Bill Williams in their corner.

The two brothers, aged 15 and 10, are already connected to Fleetwood Town and Manchester City respectively.

While the path ahead for the duo is far from simple, their attempt to navigate the maze of English football is being helped by the presence of Williams, who is a cousin to the family through his wife Alana Raffie.

Having experienced the highs and lows of professional sport, the All Black has been chatting to the brothers regularly and is proving particularly useful when it comes to dealing with agents.

"They’re great kids who have a lot of talent and the whole family’s there supporting them," Williams told The World Game.

"A lot of sacrifices have been made by their mum and dad and their determination to succeed is tremendous to see.

"Everybody is putting in and hopefully, the rewards will come.

"We talk a lot and I’m proud of what they’re doing."

Akiel has been with League One outfit Fleetwood for three years now and has been on the radar of Joeys coach Trevor Morgan.

Keyaan meanwhile has just joined City's impressive academy set-up and turned down reported interest from Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United to sign with the Citizens.

If either can channel Williams' sporting talent in the years to come, they'll no doubt be names to keep an eye on.
