Portugal Mexico Confederations Cup
The European champions are looking for their first victory in the competition and we are backing them to win a high-scoring game against the hosts

After the first round of matches in Group A, it is Russia who lead the table following their 2-0 victory over New Zealand. The hosts were comfortably the better team against the weakest nation in the competition, yet they will be in for an infinitely more competitive game against Portugal on Wednesday.

The European champions conceded an injury-time equaliser to draw 2-2 with Mexico in what was a highly entertaining finish to a good game in their tournament opener. Cristiano Ronaldo was named man of the match and while the Real Madrid forward did not score himself, he did provide a brilliant assist for his side's first goal.

After the game, Ronaldo conceded that the team was disappointed but already looking forward to the next match, with dabblebet offering a Portugal win at 21/20 (2.05). The winners of Euro 2016 are clear favourites against a Russia side priced at 14/5 (3.80) with the draw available at 12/5 (3.60).

Portugal manager Fernando Santos has suggested that he will rotate his squad through the group stages, with the final game in particular against New Zealand likely to see plenty of changes in personnel.

Against Russia, the likes of Gelson Martins, Nelson Semedo and André Silva could all come into the starting XI while Ronaldo is also expected to start. The 32-year-old is priced at 17/20 (1.85) to find the back of the net and at 11/4 (3.75) to open the scoring.

While he remains their star player, Ronaldo is longer the only footballer of genuine quality in this Portugal team and over the last twelve months the side have shown a real capacity to score goals.

Andre Silva has formed a prolific partnership with Ronaldo, while the likes of Joao Moutinho have also chipped in with goals from midfield and Portugal have scored at least twice in each of their last eight matches.

The price, therefore, of 12/5 (3.60) for a Portuguese win and over 2.5 goals in the game appeals, with each of Portugal's last seven victories coming in matches with at least three goals.
