Roma loanee Sadiq Umar vows to fight for Rangers spot

The 21-year-old has been limited to a substitute role in Steven Gerrard’s team since the start of the 2018-19 campaign

Sadiq Umar has ruled out speculations about Rangers exit and has vowed to fight for his starting place in the team.

The Nigeria youth international has managed just 13 minutes of action since he signed for the Gers on loan from Roma in July.

The presence of Kyle Lafferty, Alfredo Morelos and Glenn Middleton has limited the playing time of the 21-year-old in Steven Gerrard’s team.

Umar’s only appearance for Rangers was as a second-half substitute for Morelos in their 2-0 defeat of St. Mirren back in August.

Despite the restriction, the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist is committed to earning his spot in the Scottish Premier League club.

“It’s too soon to talk about movements,” Umar told Supersport .

“I am here to play football and I know it won’t be easy.

“It’s a privilege to work with a living legend like Steven Gerrard.

“I’m working hard in training and we’re doing the right things.

“It’s just too early to talk about leaving. Let’s just see how the future turns out.”
