It remains to be seen whether or Lidoda Duvha will agree to sell one of their best players during the upcoming transfer window

Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly preparing a bid for Black Leopards’ versatile attacker Joseph Mhlongo.

The well-traveled forward was one of Lidoda Duvha’s key players during the recent 2017/18 National First Division (NFD) campaign and PSL promotion/relegation playoffs.

Mhlongo hit the back of the net five times in 22 league appearances and he helped Leopards gain promotion to the elite league after finishing at the top of the playoffs standings.

The midfielder-come-striker possesses power and an eye for goals and he is said to have caught the eye of Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung, who attended the recent playoffs.

“Bobby [Motaung] also attended the playoffs not only to watch Mhlongo, but other players like Meshack Maphangule,” The Citizen source said.

Motaung recently stated that they are likely to sign new players, before the club appoints a new head coach. The Chiefs coaching job became vacant following Steve Komphela’s resignation in April, 2018.

The Soweto giants have been linked with Leopards attacking midfielder Meshack Maphangule since last year.

However, Maphangule, who scored three goals in made 20 league appearances for Lidoda Duvha during the recent season, looks set to join Pirates.

Amakhosi have now been tipped to sign Mhlongo, who joined Leopards as a free agent in July last year following the sale of FC Cape Town to Ubuntu Cape Town.

“They were impressed by Joseph, and all that is left now is for them to table an offer for him,” the source concluded.

Mhlongo joined PSL side Free State Stars prior to the start of the 2015/16 season, but he was released following the arrival of German tactician Ernst Middendorp in September 2015.

The hard-working attacker will finally have a chance showcase his talent in the PSL next season. He has also turned out for Roses United in the NFD.
