AFC Leopards coach Nikola Kavazovic is now the clear favourite to take charge at Free State Stars.
The Serbian coach left the country on Sunday to attend to his sick father just a few weeks after he signed to handle the side and also a week to the Kenyan Premier League kick-off.
However, Goal now understands that the former Township Rollers coach in Botswana, is headed to South Africa to replace Luc Eymael at Free State Stars. Though the coach had promised to return to the Den, Kavazovic is now the favourite to land the job.
On Monday, Goal exclusively reported that despite Ingwe management assuring fans that the coach will return, he had gone for good. A source close to the coach revealed, “Kavazovic is gone and will not come back. He left a very unhappy man because he had issues with the top office, who turned against him when he asked that they drop Zambian winger Shadreck Chimanya.
“He was not impressed with the player and reason he wanted him dropped and a replacement found before the season kicks-off, but it seems the office felt betrayed and wanted to keep the player. He was not happy at all and I don’t think he will come back.”
AFC Leopards will face Kariobangi Sharks in the season opener on December 8.
