Real Madrid will attempt to move up to third place in La Liga when they host Real Sociedad at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.

Zinedine Zidane's men surprisingly missed an opportunity to leapfrog Valencia last week when they drew 2-2 with Levante, but they will be determined to do so by winning against the struggling San Sebastian outfit.

Despite their wobbly form, Zidane will be confident in his side's ability to pull it off, having already defeated their visitors 3-1 in the corresponding fixture back in September.

However, while climbing up as high in La Liga is certainly high on their agenda, Madrid will also have one eye on their Champions League last-16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain which takes place next week, just four days later.

Real Madrid have near to a clean bill of health, with only Jesus Vallejo definitely ruled out of the game. Dani Ceballos is considered a doubt for the match too.

Even though he has a near-full complement of players available, it will not be surprising to see Zidane rest a number of key men for the upcoming match against PSG.

Ahead of the game, Zidane conceded that his side's lack of consistency had been an issue this term, but reiterated his view that they are more than capable of salvaging their season.

"Consistency has been the problem. You might slip up over the course of a season but we've still got a challenge awaiting us and we'll do all we can," Zidane told reporters. "We believe we can do great things and that's all I care about. I want my players to go out and play, be aggressive in the best possible sense, defend, battle hard. That's what we train for when we prepare for matches." 

In Sociedad they are coming up against an opponent that they have already beaten this season and a team that has been performing well below expectations. However, Eusebio Sacristan's side have shown signs of improvement, particularly following their 5-0 pummelling of Deportivo La Coruna last week.

Given their patchy home form - three losses and two draws in La Liga - Madrid will have to be extremely wary of the Basque outfit's resurgence when they take to the field on Saturday evening in the capital, but it may be difficult to retain focus, with the spectre of PSG looming large on the horizon.

"We want to pick up points in La Liga and close the gap on the leaders, without letting our minds drift to Wednesday's game," Zidane noted. "We've worked on all the necessary elements for tomorrow during the week and we hope we can put them into practice on the pitch. We believe we can still do big things this season."
