Bale has been in impressive form over the summer and we are backing him to continue his excellent record of scoring in big matches for Los Blancos

Replacing a player of the magnitude of Cristiano Ronaldo is an almost impossible task, yet in pre-season at least Real Madrid have looked extremely dangerous despite the departure of their all-time leading goalscorer.

Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio have shared Los Blancos' goals between them and in the first match of the post-Ronaldo era, Julen Lopetegui will be looking for his forwards to continue their fine summer form.

Atletico have invested heavily in attacking players over the summer, too, with record signing Thomas Lemar joining Gelson Martins and Nikola Kalinic in moving to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

Latest odds

The shortest priced player in bet365's antyime goalscorer market is Bale at 7/4 (2.75), just ahead of Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann.

The French pair are each offered at 15/8 (2.88) to net while Diego Costa and Nikola Kalinic are priced at 9/4 (3.25).

Asensio meanwhile made his first team debut for Real Madrid in this fixture two years ago, scoring a spectacular goal against Sevilla, and there could be plenty of interest in the price of 11/4 (3.75) for him to net once more.

Bale out to impress

Gareth Bale's last official game for Real Madrid was the Champions League final where his stunning two goal contribution helped the Bernabeu outfit to their thirteenth European Cup.

In the aftermath of that final it seemed as if the Welshman could be leaving the Spanish capital, yet after a summer of changes Bale now finds himself as the main man for the European champions.

The 29 year old has scored in two Champions League finals, the Copa del Rey final and the final of the Club World Cup - underlining how decisive he has been during his time in Spain.

Atletico's midfield danger

While Diego Simeone has added to his already impressive collection of attacking options, there could be value in backing one of his midfield stalwarts in getting on the scoresheet.

Saul Niguez is priced at 5/1 (6.00) to score and the Spain international has a habit of netting in big games, with four of his six goals last season coming in European competition and making him an excellent value bet to score.
