Benik Afobe will absolutely not be lacking support when he spearheads Congo DR’s attacking line against Nigeria in Monday’s international friendly.
The 25-year-old marked his international debut with a goal against Botswana on June 5, 2017, and he would be hoping to wreak havoc against Gernot Rohr’s Russia-bound team.
Plausible as this ambition appears, he would have his parents – Angy Afobe and Fala Afobe – cheering him from the stands.
For his father, Angy, his presence will be very vital towards helping the Bournemouth man be at his best against the three-time African kings.
“I have always followed Benik since he was in Arsenal academy at the age of six and infact, he has gotten used to that,” he told Goal.
“He is still a kid and we are his parents and whenever he sees us in the stands, he wants to make us happy and that gives him extra motivation.”
Aside encouraging him against Nigeria, Angy will be keen to see his son get on the scoresheet.
“His primary aim as a striker is to score goals and against Nigeria, that will not be an exception,” he continued.
“I will be happy to see him score, but ultimately, the most important thing is to see him play well and help Congo DR win on Monday evening.”
Benik played a crucial role in helping Wolverhampton Wanderer gain promotion to the English topflight - scoring six times in 16 games for Nuno Santos’ side after he was loaned from the Dean Court.
He is a key component in Florent Ibenge’s squad as they will be aiming to rebuild on the back of a painful 2018 World Cup ticket miss despite an impressive qualification campaign.
