Next Arsenal Manager Betting: Ancelotti cut to 2/1 for Gunners job after Napoli sacking

Carlo Ancelotti has been cut to 2/1 (3.0) to become the next manager of Arsenal after being fired by Napoli on Tuesday night.

Just hours after leading the Italian side to a 4-0 victory over Genk to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League, Ancelotti was relieved of his duties with Gennaro Gattuso taking over in his stead.

That was Napoli’s first win in 10 games and they sit seventh in Serie A after a run of seven matches without victory, putting them 17 points off the top of the table and six away from a top-four spot.

Ancelotti was 14/1 (15.0) with 888Sport at the start of the week but his sudden availability will likely have piqued Arsenal’s interest, who sacked Unai Emery in November after the Spaniard went seven matches without a win.

This would not be Ancelotti’s first tenure in England, with the Italian having previously led Chelsea to the domestic double in 2009-10 by winning the Premier League and FA Cup, although he was fired just a year later.

Emery’s temporary replacement, Freddie Ljungberg, recently guided the Gunners to their first Premier League win in over two months and remains 1/2 (1.50) favourite to be given the job on a permanent basis.

It is also worth noting that per 888Sport’s rules, caretaker and interim managers completing at least 10 consecutive competitive games will be deemed the permanent manager, meaning they will pay out on Ljungberg if he completes seven more games in charge regardless of whether he is officially given a permanent contract.

Mikel Arteta is second-favourite in the market at 6/4 (2.50), having been heavily linked to the job last summer when the Gunners were searching for Arsene Wenger’s successor.

The former Arsenal and Everton midfielder opted to remain in his role as assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and it remains to be seen whether he declares his interest this time around.

Elsewhere, 888Sport go 8/1 (9.0) that Mauricio Pochettino makes the short trip across North London to take the reins at the Emirates Stadium, in what would be his first job since being fired from Tottenham in November.

Arsenal legend and current Nice manager Patrick Vieira is also priced at 8/1 (9.0), whilst Massimiliano Allegri is out at 14/1 (15.0).
