Napoli's Faouzi Ghoulam to undergo surgery for ACL injury

The Light Blues disclosed that the Algeria international will go under the knife after tearing his knee ligament in Wednesday’s Champions League game

Napoli have confirmed that Faouzi Ghoulam will undergo surgery after a total rupture of his right anterior cruciate ligament in their 4-2 defeat to Manchester City.

The defender was replaced in the 31st minute by Christian Maggio as Maurizio Sarri’s men suffered their third defeat in the elite European competition this season.

The Stadio San Paolo outfit stated that the 26-year-old had undergone preliminary tests for the injury which confirmed a tear in his ACL and he is expected to undergo an operation with no timescale for his recovery yet.

“Faouzi Ghoulam was visited by Professor Mariani at Villa Stuart this morning,” the statement reads on club website.

“The defender has undergone instrumental examinations that have revealed the total breakdown of the right frontal crusader.

“Ghoulam will be operated in the morning.”
