My players are short of confidence - coach Ramson Madu

Heartland coach, Ramson Madu admits that his players are lacking in confidence because of their inability to secure their first win of the Nigeria Professional Football League season against Yobe Desert Stars.

The Naze Millionaires were forced to a 0-0 draw on Sunday - making them the only team in the Nigeria top flight yet to win a game this term.

In an interview, Madu noted that what his young players need is their first win of the season and that they will pick up almost immediately after then.

“I will say my players are short of confidence. They have created several scoring opportunities but they have not been fortunate to get a win. I am sure that by the time we get our first win of the season. It will push us out to get more,” Madu told Goal.

“These are young boys that we are still trying to expose to how it is like playing in the topflight and they have not actually disappointed me at all. I am happy that today’s (Sunday) game didn’t end in another home loss. We are going to learn from these results.

“My boys did their best and we were almost getting the win against Yobe Desert Stars before what could have been our winning goal was disallowed. I don’t like talking about officiating or the match officials. We must accept the result and move on ahead of the next game on Wednesday,” he noted.

He also confirmed that Heartland would adopt another strategy on Wednesday as they go in search of their first win of the campaign in Lokoja against Niger Tornadoes.

“We will go back home and explore what we have done wrong in the last game before we will start talking about our next fixture. We know that Tornadoes will be tough but we are going explore other tactics that we may deploy to our advantage. We won’t be happy with another defeat. We will go there and try our best."
