Much-hyped Gor Mahia vs Everton friendly now in limbo

The much-awaited friendly match between Gor Mahia and English Premier League side Everton may not happen after all.

K’Ogalo booked a second date with Everton after winning the Super Cup following a 2-0 victory over Simba SC in June.

The victory over the Tanzanian side came with a free ticket to Goodison Park to face Everton. With the English Premier League season set to kick-off on August 10, it is now official that the eagerly awaited friendly will not take place as earlier planned.

Gor Mahia CEO Omondi Aduda remained upbeat that the match will take place, but could not say exactly when, because the organizers are yet to communicate on the same.

“The best people to answer that question are the organizers (SportPesa). We are ready and just waiting for communication,” Aduda told Goal.

However, SportPesa remained tight-lipped on the exact dates but insisted that the friendly is still on.

"The dates are not yet confirmed.  We will write to all of you as soon as we have the dates. We will let you know," Esther Kangethe of SportsPesa told Goal.

Gor Mahia lost 2-1 to Everton in July 2017, during another friendly played in Tanzania.
