The Portuguese had a perfect five-from-five winning record in domestic cup finals before the Blues came out on top at Wembley

Manchester United’s 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea saw Jose Mourinho lose his perfect record in domestic cup finals in England.

Prior to Saturday’s loss at Wembley, Mourinho had won five successive showpieces while in charge of Premier League clubs.

His record, however, was shattered by the Blues, whose only goal of the game came from the penalty spot via Eden Hazard, who had moments earlier been fouled by Phil Jones.

Mourinho won his first silverware in England via the League Cup final in 2005, when Liverpool were defeated 3-2, with Didier Drogba and Mateja Kezman finding the net in extra time.

In 2007, he won the same trophy, with Arsenal this time the victims. Theo Walcott had the Gunners ahead, but Mourinho’s men fought back, with Drogba again coming up trumps at the crucial moments to score twice and turn the game around.

Later that same year, the Ivory Coast international proved the match winner in the FA Cup final, once more striking a late winner for the Stamford Bridge side against Manchester United.

Eight years later, Mourinho again came out on top at Wembley, this time in the League Cup final. For once, Drogba did not play a starring role, with John Terry and Diego Costa both on the scoresheet as Tottenham were beaten 2-0.

His first trophy with the Red Devils, meanwhile, came in exciting fashion, with Southampton defeated 3-2, again in the League Cup. His team’s penchant for scoring dramatic winners was kept alive and well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored three minutes from the end to finally sink Saints, who had fought back from behind after the Swede and Jesse Lingard struck.

Ironically, it was his old club Chelsea that prevented Mourinho making it six of the best on Saturday, with United having finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League.
