Modern Coast Rangers produced a classy display in second half to humiliate visiting Bidco United in a second tier match

A tactical masterstroke by coach Mohammed Mchulla Mohaa enabled Modern Coast Rangers to record a morale boosting 3-1 win over visiting Bidco United in a mid-week second tier match played at KPA Mbaraki Sports Club.

Smarting from last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Vihiga United, Rangers goal hungry striking force went offensive from the first whistle and David Orem found the back of the net in the first minute. Bidco United hauled themselves off the canvass and restored parity in the 13th minute through Antony Mbuthia.

Rangers could have doubled the lead in the 10th minute when they were awarded a penalty after an opponent handled inside the box but midfield workhorse Leroy Buko’s spot-kick was saved by keeper John Nduati.

Bidco United coach Yusuf Chipo made double changes at the beginning of second stanza pulling out David Mungai and Sebastian Osodo for Mohammed Hassan and Joseph Kariuki respectively. Chipo’s counterpart Mohammed Mchulla Mohaa also made two substitutions introducing sensational Athman Mzee and Abdalla Mdeka for Michael Ate and David Orem respectively.

That proved to be a tactical masterstroke for coach Mohaa. Abdalla Mdeka and Athman Mzee’s combination spelt doom for the opponents. Mdeka outsprinted the defense and was brought down inside the box by Lamdert Oyuga for a penalty in the 72nd minute. Francis Ochola stepped up to convert the penalty to restore lead for the hosts.

The visitors piled pressure in search of the equalizer but effort by Kenneth Githinji and overlapping defender Lambert Oyuga saw the ball going over the bar.

Athman Mzee drove the final nail into Bidco United coffin with a spectacular free-kick that sent goalkeeper John Nduati sprawling helplessly on the turf. With the result, Modern Coast Rangers have moved one place up to fourth position on the 10 team NSL log with 8 points from 5 matches and two points less than table topper Ushuru.

Rangers face the tax men in an explosive encounter of a double header set for Monday April 3 at Thika Stadium that will be aired live on Bamba TV from 16:15 hours. Prior to the match Bidco United will host Wazito at the same venue at 14:00 hours.
