The match was billed as a title decider and that contributed to a tense affair at Tan Sri Dato Haji Hassan Yunos Stadium but Johor Darul Ta'zim eventually ran out 2-0 winners on the night that increased their lead at the top of the table to eight points.
JDT scored through Fernando Marquez before five minutes have been played and secured all three points through Jorge Santos Silva's wonderful late in the second half. However, that doesn't fully describe the match as Perak pushed JDT all the way throughout the match.
In fact, the visitors could have not only equalise in the first half but also take the lead, had they been more efficient in front goal. Chances after chances were created with Norhakim Hassan, Gilmar da Silva Filho and Wander Luiz also unable to find the right finish.
"I thought it was a fantastic game to watch. We played really good football from first to last minute, we created many chances. We made one mistake the penalty then they caught us on the break for the second goal. So they really only had two chances. We had at least 5 or 6 one-on-one with the goalkeeper."
"It's not easy to come here to create so many chances, not many teams come here to do that. Sometimes the better team doesn't win. I'm very happy with the performance of my players, just the final pass and finishing that let us down," said Durakovic after the match.
A win on the night would have put Perak to within three points of JDT but that was not to be. The Australian will now have to pick his players up again as they make their way to Paroi to face Negeri Sembilan on June 6.
With only eight match left to play in the 2018 Super League season, Perak are still mathematically in with a shout for the title but in reality it would be hard to see where JDT are going to drop massive amount of points for that to happen.
