Matchday 22 wrap: Wafa pull away as Hearts displace Kotoko

A home win in midweek sees the Academy Boys peel off second-placed Aduana Stars who fell on the road

Still with a game in hand, Wafa have moved three points clear at the top due to the sequence of matchday 22 results of the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday.

Togo striker Komlan Agbegniadan (penalty) and Richard Danso struck to hand the side a 2-0 home win over eighth-placed Bechem United.

The Academy Boys' good fortune was associated with the fall of closest contender Aduana Stars at the Malik Jabir Park. Abdulraman Fataw scored for the Fire Boys but goals from David Abagna, Nassiru Moro and Paul Asare de Vries ensured a 3-1 triumph for home side Wa All Stars.

Elsewhere, Hearts of Oak have reclaimed the third spot from rivals Asante Kotoko following the former's 2-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea. Captain Thomas Abbey hit a double to put the Phobians in high spirits ahead of Sunday's Super Clash.

Fourth-placed Kotoko, meanwhile, lost 1-0 to Inter Allies at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra. Abdul-Halik Hudu fetched the goal that condemned the Porcupine Warriors to their first defeat in eight league games.

At the Tarkwa T&A Park, Agyenim Boateng registered a solitary goal as Medeama picked a 1-0 win over new boys Tema Youth.

The Yellow and Mauves sit sixth on the log with 31 points, same number of marks as Ebusua Dwarfs who were held to a scoreless draw at home to Great Olympics. The 'Dade' Boys, meanwhile, sit second from bottom.

It was indeed a shocking result as Liberty Professionals suffered a 1-0 home defeat to newly-promoted Elmina Sharks. Farouk Adams' goal was the separating factor between 13th-positioned Liberty and 12-placed-Sharks.

In Tamale, Daniel Gozar was the hero of the day as his two goals ensured a 2-0 away triumph for 2014-15 champions Ashanti Gold over Bolga All Stars. The Miners have won six and drawn one of their last seven matches.
