Ian Wright: Mohamed Salah has a 'very good chance' to win Ballon d'Or

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has tipped Mohamed Salah to win the Ballon d'Or if he guides Liverpool to Uefa Champions League glory.

The 25-year-old’s tremendous goalscoring run has put him in the running to challenge Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo for the world’s most prestigious individual award.

Salah has been in an awe-inspiring form in his debut campaign with the Reds, scoring 43 goals in 47 games across all competitions.

The Egypt international became the highest scoring African player in a single Champions League season [10] after netting a brace in his side’s 5-2 defeat of Roma on Tuesday.

When quizzed if Salah could end Messi and Ronaldo’s duopoly since 2008, Wright told  SkySports Debate : "Salah is in that conversation, of course he is. With the World Cup coming in, the form he is you'd like to think he'll keep that for the World Cup.

“Obviously depending on what Liverpool do in the Champions League, if they do go on and win it, then you have to say when you look at Cristiano Ronaldo, he's saved much of his best work for the Champions League.

"He's [Ronaldo] won the Ballon d'Or a couple of times, and not just for those reasons but if Mo Salah keeps on doing what he's doing, he's not only in the conversation, he's got a very good chance of winning it."

The Egypt international who has scored 31 goals in 33 league matches this campaign, could become the highest ever goalscorer in a single Premier League season if he finds the back of the net against Stoke City on Saturday.
