Steve Bruce says Jack Grealish would have joined Tottenham if the club had made a bid earlier in the summer transfer window.

Spurs eventually made a £20 million bid for the winger on deadline day but were unable to complete a deal.

 “It’s fair to say we were in such a bad position financially that if Tottenham had have done their work early, then I’m sure he would have been a Tottenham player," Bruce said.

Mourinho talks Pogba amid Barca rumours


Jose Mourinho has played down talk of a rift between himself and Barcelona target Paul Pogba, confirming him as Red Devils captain for the weekend.

Pogba and his relationship with his manager has come under fire once again this season and the midfielder stirred speculation of an Old Trafford exit with comments after the club's opening Premier League fixture of the campaign.

Following a 2-1 victory over Leicester, Pogba said of the rumours: "There are things I can say and there are things I cannot say... otherwise I will get fined."

Reports suggesting Pogba would try and force a move to Barca followed but Mourinho has now moved to reject claims of any disharmony between the two.

Former Arsenal striker Gervinho is set to undergo a medical at Serie A side Parma today, Goal understands.

Gervinho left Roma in 2016 to join Chinese Super League outfit Hebei China Fortune in a deal worth around €18 million (£16m/$20.5m) but is now close to completing his Italian return.

The 31-year-old scored 26 goals in 88 games for Roma during his three-year stay at the club.

Ronaldo debut set for Chievo


Cristiano Ronaldo is set to make his Juventus debut against Chievo this weekend.

Boss Massimiliano Allegri will hand the 33-year-old his first competitive start following his €100 million (£89m/$114m) move from Real Madrid, but has warned his side not to get complacent.

Manchester United are considering approaching Paul Mitchell of RB Leipzig to become their director of football, Sky Sports says.

The Red Devils are planning on installing a new position to take over control of transfers and see Mitchell, who is credited with bringing Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld to Tottenham, as an ideal candidate. 

Dan Ashworth, currently at the Football Association, is another name on United's shortlist for the role.

Klavan set for £2m Cagliari switch


Liverpool have agreed to sell defender Ragnar Klavan to Cagliari in a £2 million ($2.5m) deal.

The Estonia international will travel to Italy on Friday to complete a medical and finalise personal terms as he ends his two-year stay at Anfield.

Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan is closing in on a €2 million move to Cagliari, reports Gianluca Di Marzio. 

The 32-year-old moved to Anfield from Augsburg in 2016, and is in the final year of his contact. 

With Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez in place, Klavan's prospects for minutes with the Reds in 2018-19 appeared to be limited. 

Willian to sign new two-year deal


Chelsea star Willian will be given a new two-year contract with a pay rise, according to The Sun.

The 30-year-old Brazilian was subject of interest from Manchester United and Barcelona this summer, but is ready to extend his stay with the Stamford Bridge side.

Pjanic to sign new Juve deal


The midfielder was rumoured to be on the move to Man City or Barca

Arsenal confident Ramsey will sign new deal

Schalke to land Morocco left-back


Lille left-back Hamza Mendyl is close to joining Schalke, according to L'Equipe.

The 20-year-old Morocco international came on for the Ligue 1 side at the end of last season, starting six of the club's final seven league games.
