Lebo Mothiba led Lille's fightback as they defeated Rennes 3-1 in their season-opening encounter on Saturday.

Les Dogues, in their first game of the 2018-19 Ligue 1 season, fell behind to a Clement Grenier goal in the 43rd minute but the South Africa striker ensured they went into the break on level terms.

After the restart, goals from Nicolas Pepe and Jonathan Bamba ensured Christophe Galtier's side started the new campaign on a winning note.

Mothiba - after joining from Valenciennes in January - ended his debut season at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy with five goals in 14 league games, and will hope to have a higher return in his first full season with the former champions.

The 22-year-old marksman was replaced in the dying moments of the game.

Lille are third in the log and will play Monaco in their next French top-flight encounter on August 18.
