Langerak hails Postecoglou's Yokohama impact

After years on the international stage together with Australia, both Mitch Langerak and Ange Postecoglou now find themselves in Japan.

Socceroos keeper Langerak has quickly become a fan favourite at Nagoya Grampus, while Postecoglou is into his second season at Yokohama F.Marinos. 

The two clubs with an Aussie connection faced off in mid-April and though Langerak didn't last the full 90 minutes after picking up an injury, the 30-year-old is clearly impressed with the impact the former Socceroos coach is having in Japan. 

"Obviously, we go back a long way so there’s always a lot of mutual respect between each other," Langerak told Goal Japan.

"But I think his tactics work very well in Japan because he has players who are willing to implement every single thing that he says and I can see this by watching the way Yokohama play.

"He plays very possession-based, a very attacking, offensive style of football. Sometimes it seems all-out attack, but you can see in the games when it worked and it looks very exciting.

"I’m happy for him that he’s got a team that is doing that and playing the way he wants to because he’s a very good coach. He deserves a team like that." 

Yokohama and Nagoya drew 1-1 when they played last month with Marinos currently eighth in the J-League, while Langerak's side are flying high in second. 

The former Borussia Dortmund keeper is contracted in Japan until the end of the season and admits a return to Australia down the track is on his radar. 

"I’d love to go back and play A-League one day," he said. 

"At the moment it’s not my preference, but for sure, one day. It’s got a lot of happy memories for me when I played for Melbourne Victory.  

"I always try to watch the games and keep up to date with what’s going on in the A-League and it’s only going to grow in the future. 

"At the moment, it’s very exciting with the players who are there, for example, (Keisuke) Honda. And hopefully, in the next one, two, three years, they’ll continue to develop, continue to grow and hopefully, some more big players like Honda will join the league and give it an extra boost."
